If you want to try a cuban deli while in Orlando, go to Black Bean Deli. There are two locations in Orlando, one located downtown on Colonial Drive and the other in Winter Park on Orlando Ave.
While the menu is meat-centric, the Vegetarian Platter is what you want. It’s a delightful plate of yellow rice, black beans, sweet plantains and a green salad, which comes with the most divine avocado dressing.
They also make a vegan empanada which is “beef-like” with some veggies in a nice, deep fried shell. It’s really amazing how they can make this empanada vegan. And better yet, it’s made fresh to order. They also have desserts and coffee.
Black Bean Deli is idea for lunch, as the hours vary between locations. As such, the cafe is especially busy during this time everyday of the week (both locations are closed Sundays), so plan to eat at noon or after 2 p.m. when it’s not terribly crowded, or go for dinner when they are open late.
